Stretch out in front of this bungalow's fireplace, and you won't want to leave

With just one look, it's clear this is a home of fine craftsmanship. Built in Long Beach in 1918, this two-bedroom California bungalow may be nearly a century old, but it remains a stunner. Yes, we do seem to take things, and people, at face value — at least in the beginning. But in all honesty, the visage here is compelling: clean lines, artful detailing, graceful but sturdy pillars, a roomy porch and a pleasing walkway to the door.
This home blends space, light and efficiency in 1,283 square feet. The result? Stylish windows, a grand front room, a fab master bathroom and a definite pride in workmanship. Let the tour commence!

The first thing that grabs the eye is the front room's stellar — and original — Batchelder fireplace. Who cares if an actual fire is roaring or not, it's Southern California. The centerpiece gives the room a beautiful glow, as do the two sets of French doors.
When we say this is a grand front room, we mean it. The wood and glass door and the plentiful windows give depth and delight to the room, which features seating areas near the fireplace.
On the right side of the front room is the amiable dining area, which again is no stranger to natural light and keeps everyone within talking distance for family fetes or neighborhood get-togethers.
The updated kitchen ensures meals can be concocted up to anyone's standards, but a sense of nostalgia comes through in the vintage-style light and the home's original swinging door.
And the retro ambience doesn't end with the door — excellent pantry storage adds to the charm as does a sweet eat-in nook. Oh, this would be a great home for a tea party ... or two.
A regal dignity resides in the master bedroom, which delivers a haven-like aura while offering a way to slip outside unnoticed.
If this master bathroom does not inspire storage envy, what could? The home's design style comes alive in the original marble counters, tiling, cabinets and the marvelous window. There better be a Do Not Disturb sign included!
The other bedroom should in no way be considered second best. The pair of windows help frame the bed, as does the lighting. What a room to call home.

For inquiring minds: This bungalow does include a "bonus room" that can be a music room, office or guest bedroom. The home's roof dormer features "original leaded glass windows" and those glorious roses in front? They are 50-plus years old. Yes, it's good to know beautiful places endure.
