Go back to simplicity with this modern horse country farmhouse

Nestled into an open prairie, this double-story wooden homestead looks right out of the 1800s. But don't let looks deceive you! This is a modern, green project by Re:Vision Architecture of Pennsylvania, a firm who specializes in sustainable building.
A closer view shows the mixture of materials: stone siding, wooden slate and galvanized roofing. It's difficult to tell whether the unique parts or additions or if the house was planned as a unit. Indeed, the architects used reclaimed barn wood and salvaged cedar. But they've also used modern insulation materials to make this home as comfortable as possible.

The living space looks sleek but retains the appeal of an old, lofted barn. It benefits from a smart split-level construction to passively heat and cool the main rooms.
The family kitchen has character, thanks to the knots and natural wood grains. Below-the-cabinet lighting and two pendulums illuminate the main work areas.
This floating stairwell divides the split-level space and leads you several stories upwards. The iron railings and mounting provide strength but keep a simple ambiance.
Here's one of the main bathrooms. Though very spacious, this bathroom uses unassuming gray stone and simple wooden tables. The on-counter sink basin is a classy modern addition.
Here's the house from behind. You can see how the stone foundation keeps it real, and overall the giant family house looks like a simple barn
